Our little co-operative was founded in March 1967 as the Campus Cooperative Association. At the time affordable student housing was a huge need and the co-op was part of the solution. We rented houses from the University and the City, and began saving up to buy our own properties. By the early 1970's, we had 65 members living in 12 houses.
In 1981 we changed out name to Assiniboia, reflecting shift away from student housing. The co-op was still buying property and by 1986 we owned 5 homes, two of which were sold in the 90's.
We are so grateful for all the people who have made the co-op what it is today. We have comfortable, well-maintained homes, and a caring, supportive community. We're dreaming of what comes next- growing our co-op and our community!
